Tampa Area Catapulting Growth in Florida Jobs
Published by nora | Filed under Buyer / Seller Tips, Economy, Real Estate
The Tampa area is one of the top metro areas pushing growth in Florida jobs, as seen in increases in Tampa jobs over the year and over the month in March and April 2012.
In March 2012, the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater posted the second-biggest year-over-year increase in number of nonfarm jobs, second only to the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach metro area. The Tampa area also has the second highest number of nonfarm employees — nearly 1.15 million as of March 2012, second only again to Miami area’s number.
In April 2012, the Tampa area again registered the second biggest year-over-year increase in nonfarm jobs. Another 12,600 Tampa jobs were added to the jobs on record in April 2011. It was second again to the Miami area, which posted an increase of 13,700 jobs.
Of the 20 metro areas tracked by the Bureau of Labor Statistics for its metropolitan nonfarm job surveys, only the following seven metro areas posted increases in nonfarm jobs over the year in April 2012.
Seven Metro Areas That Posted Year-Over-Year Increase in Number of Jobs in April 2012:
| Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach | 13,700 |
| Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater | 12,600 |
| Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford | 5,300 |
| Naples-Marco Island | 2,300 |
| Sebastian-Vero Beach | 1,100 |
| Jacksonville | 1,200 |
| Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin | 600 |
Of the metro areas that posted increases in the previous month, March 2012, it was only North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota area that did not post another increase in April.
The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area also posted the third highest rate of increase in nonfarm jobs over the year in April. Here are the rates of year-over-year increases in nonfarm jobs:
| Sebastian-Vero Beach | 2.4 % |
| Naples-Marco Island | 2.0 % |
| Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater | 1.1 % |
| Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin | 0.7 % |
| Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach | 0.6 % |
| Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford | 0.5 % |
| Jacksonville | 0.2 % |
On the whole, job growth means more home sales in Tampa. The more Florida jobs and Tampa jobs, the more people looking for homes for sale in Tampa and in other Florida areas.
