Florida Real Estate Market — Top 10 Counties in Home Sales

In the Florida real estate market, the top ten counties in home sales in March 2012 included Hillsborough County, where the city of Tampa is located. Hillsborough County sold 1,521 homes in March, the sixth highest total sold by any of 67 counties in Florida, based on sales data published by the Greater Tampa Association of Realtors (GTAR).

Here are the top ten counties in home sales in Florida in March 2012. Home sales refer to sales of single-family homes, condos and townhouses.

1,521     Hillsborough County

Based on sales of single-family homes, the top selling county was Lee County. These four counties were the only ones with sales exceeding 1,000 homes.

Based on sales of condos and townhouses, the top selling county was Broward County. These  three counties were the only ones with sales exceeding 1,000 units.

It was Monroe County that had the highest median sales price in the Florida real estate market for all single-family homes, condos and townhouses sold in March 2012. The four other highest-price counties were Franklin, Walton, Collier and Saint Johns. Of these five counties, only Collier County had sales that exceeded 1,000 units. Monroe sold 161 units; Franklin, 39 units; Walton, 213 units; and Saint Johns sold 269 units.

Of the ten most popular counties based on sales, the county with the highest median sales  price was Collier County.

From the Florida real estate market data above, the most popular counties to home buyers are in the southern part of Florida, mostly those nearer to the water. Of the ten counties, only Duval County is located in the northern part of Florida. In the southwestern and central western counties, the more popular cities are Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Bradenton, Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater. In the southeastern counties, the more popular cities are Miami, Key West, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach.
