Florida Real Estate Still the Top Choice of Foreign Investors
Published by nora | Filed under Buyer / Seller Tips, Market Trends, Real Estate
Several reports on foreign sales and online search for U.S. homes in 2011 ranked Florida real estate as the most searched and most desired by foreign residential investors in 2011. These were reports issued by the National Association of Realtors, MetroStudy, Point2, Trulia, National Association of Home Builders and other real estate organizations.
In the most recent report, issued by real estate marketing solutions provider Point2, Florida real estate was again found to be the most searched by foreign housing investors in the fourth quarter of 2011. Point2 based its analysis on visits to its website Point2 Homes, which is a portal for listings of residential properties across the U.S. and other countries. Florida captured 31.04 percent of all global visits to Point2’s listings of US properties.
| State | Share of Total Online Visits from Other Countries |
| Florida | 31.04 % |
| Arizona | 19.44 % |
| Nevada | 8.61 % |
| California | 7.10 % |
| Puerto Rico | 5.58 % |
| Michigan | 3.95 % |
| Texas | 3.62 % |
| Hawaii | 2.79 % |
| Georgia | 1.42 % |
| New York | 1.35 % |
As often mentioned in reports, Florida is preferred by a significant proportion of foreign homebuyers because of its reputation as a top vacation destination. Tourists love Florida’s beautiful weather, magnificent beaches, boating and fishing adventures, cruise vacations and theme parks. It’s resort-style living for many who call Florida home.
The most popular Florida city among foreign homebuyers, based on online searches in the fourth quarter of 2011 was Orlando, as seen in the following Top Ten list:
Orlando
Pompano Beach
Kissimmee
Miami
Davenport
St. Petersburg
Hollywood
Deerfield Beach
Pembroke-Pines
Tampa
The origin of the highest level of online search for Florida was Canada, representing an overwhelming 65.9 percent of all Florida searches. The other countries were the following:
| Canada | 65.9 % |
| United Kingdom | 7.6 % |
| Puerto Rico | 4.0 % |
| Germany | 1.9 % |
| Venezuela | 1.9 % |
| Brazil | 1.7 % |
| Argentina | 1.0 % |
| Netherlands | 0.9 % |
| Australia | 0.7 % |
| France | 0.6 % |
For all the other most popular states, Canada was also the origin of their highest level of searches. United Kingdom was the second-ranking source of searches in four of the top states.
In Point2’s international online home search report in the third quarter of 2011, Florida was also the most searched. As the state continues to create jobs and attract investments, residents expect the number of owner-buyers and investors in the state to increase significantly.
