How to Properly Stage That Home

Staging a home can be tricky.  It can be very difficult to see problems in one’s own home.  Hiring a professional stager is often the best way to go for those who are looking to sell a home quickly.  The professional stager is able to quickly see problem areas and knows what to do to correct those problems.  Those who do not want to hire a stager can attempt to do this alone.  This often goes beyond simply cleaning the house and opening the door unfortunately and can oftentimes be very time consuming.

One of the most important things to do when staging the homes is to ensure that the home is clean.  Having the carpets professionally cleaned is very important when staging a home.  The cleaning of the carpet can eliminate any dirt trails that show the high traffic areas of the home.  In addition a professional cleaning can remove any smells that one may not notice once used to the smell of the home.  A carpet that has been laid down years ago may even appear new after a complete and professional cleaning.

Limiting the amount of clutter in a home is also very important when staging a home.  Clutter can make a room and a house appear very small.  This is because if there is a lot of clutter, there appears to be no storage space.  While the clutter may make the house feel like a home to the owners, it can be distracting to the potential buyers and detract from the house.  While staging the home, the clutter should be removed and stored elsewhere.

Arranging the furniture so that it shows and open and spacious room is very important.  If there is too much furniture in a room, the room can appear small and stuffy.  This can detract from the home and make it appear smaller than it actually is.  A stager may suggest removing certain pieces while showing a home or moving the pieces to show a more open area.  The furniture may also be positioned to hide a problem area or highlight a unique or beautiful feature of the home.

Wall color is rarely thought of when staging a home.  However, it can be very important to the potential buyers.  A stager may suggest changing the wall color because a dark color may turn off buyers.  Dark colors tend to be hard to cover up and may also be difficult to match to a buyer’s décor.
