The Effect of MTV on Real Estate Expectations

MTV’s Cribs show has been on for a few years now.  Over those years, the television show has highlighted some of the richest and best known individuals and their extravagant real estate.  While it is doubtful that MTV producers had anything on their mind other than entertaining the masses, this television show has had some much unexpected results.  This celebrity real estate show has influenced both the world of art and real estate.  This show has given hope to thousands of children and ideas to hundreds of architects.

As young adults and children, people can be very influenced by what they see on television.  This is why so many people insist on ensuring that parents what their children watch to be aware of bad influences.  Music videos naturally attract youth and adolescent individuals due to the vivid colors, great music, and general sense of energy.  Since rock and roll has been viewed as a bad influence, many children watch it as a sign of rebellion.  Since MTV is known for their music videos, individuals become used to watching the program for the videos.  When Cribs came on, most people simply continued to watch the show.  What they saw were individuals who started out poor, living in the most flamboyant homes available.  They saw hope.

Due to the stories that so many of these youth and adolescents are able to relate to being aired on national television, hope has been instilled in them that they can do it too.  This hope has driven thousands to continue their education and follow their dreams.  Due to this hope, and this following drive more music has been made and more artists have begun to develop.

Another major effect that the MTV’s Cribs show has had has been directly on real estate.  Individuals who have watched their idols live in rich homes are now buying their own homes.  They often want to emulate their idols in the sense of style or extravagance.  Another trend that is occurring in real estate is the process known as “keeping up with the Jones’.”  This occurs when people try to one up each other.  This can make for some of the most extreme features in homes including, but not limited to, high numbers of bedrooms, a lot of square footage, and swimming pools.  The homes become more and more expensive, and the MTV’s Cribs show goes on to show these homes to the world.
