Extreme Homes
Published by julia | Filed under Miscellaneous, Pinellas County Homes, Real Estate
There are some very luxury and very extreme homes around the world. These extreme pieces of real estate often express their owner’s sense of style and vision. They may be energy efficient, being able to put electricity into the electrical grid rather than take it out. They may simply be quirky and radical in design. Some have become museums and offer tours through the home, and others are still being used as primary residences, with no guests coming through but personal guests. No matter what they are used as or if one is even allowed inside, just seeing them from the outside makes them unforgettable.
One such home is located out west. One would pass it right by without ever knowing that it is there. It is a converted Air force bunker that is located under ground. This extreme home is highly energy efficient and has some very nice quirks to it that make it a cut above any other subterraian abode.
This property was not overly costly due to the government being motivated to get rid of the property rather than to keep it and waste money caring for it. Since it was an air force bunker, there was a lot of room for the new owners to work with, and work with it they did. They installed solar panels on the roof to help to create energy to run the home. Since the roof is grass, the panels stand upright at a slight angle to the maximum amount of sunlight possible while keeping the roof nice and green. This green roof also has its benefits in that it keeps the home warm in the winter and cool in the summer, even if it means that one has a lot more mowing to do.
The rain fall is collected in this extreme piece of real estate and purified, making good water to use in cooking, cleaning and drinking. The water bill for this piece of real estate is fairly low due to the amount of water that can be collected throughout the year.
The garage to this home used to be the housing unit for the airplanes and trucks used by the military while they were active in the area. This makes for a very large attached, under ground garage. This hanger area has had to have very little work done to it, and makes for an extreme place to store the car.
This home has no outside views, but does not lack for windows. These windows are lit from the outside and each offers a unique view. The windows are covered with different pictures from around the world or simply from the pure imagination. Either way, they make great focal points and help to make the home feel like it is above ground, rather than below it.
