Belleview Biltmore – More than just a resort and spa!

biltmore.jpgHunt for ghosts, take a historical tour, and solve a murder mystery.  Remarkably, these are all things you can do at the Belleview Biltmore Resort and Spa in Clearwater, Florida.

Spread out over twenty-two acres of meticulously manicured lawns overlooking Clearwater Bay, the largest wooden building in the world truly is an impressive site. However, the resort’s bright white façade, imposing tree lined drive and modern steel entrance structure belies the assortment of activities that the resort offers!

The Belleview Biltmore undoubtedly excels in its spa and resort amenities.  Offering guests a 14,000 square foot salon, spa and fitness center, a Daniel Ross designed golf course, clay tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools and Jacuzzis, and award winning restaurants.  However, it is not only these amenities that the resort’s guests come to experience.

Opened in 1897, the Belleview Biltmore has survived numerous owners, additions and renovations.  As a result, the resort has a rather fascinating history.  Each day at 11am, the hotel hosts a complimentary 90 minute guided walking tour of the property.  Knowledgeable guides escort participants through the hotel while giving a monologue of  interesting facts about the resort  as well as allowing guests to experience the resort’s well known but little used underground passageways and hidden staircases.

For visitors with an interest in history that slants more towards the paranormal, Orlando Ghost Tours hosts a ghost hunting tour Saturday evenings at 8pm and 10:30pm.  The tour allows guests to explore the much talked about “haunted” fifth floor in the main building of the hotel.  Though most of the hotel is renovated, no renovations have taken place on the fifth floor and it is not open to resort guests.   This apparently makes it an ideal location for paranormal activity once the sun goes down.   Featured on various ghost hunting and paranormal shows on TV, the Belleview Biltmore is a popular destination for ghost hunting clubs from around the United States.

If ghost busting is not your thing, how about crime busting?  Interactive murder mysteries are on the menu at the resort each Saturday evening, as well.  The audience enjoys a well-prepared meal as a talented group of actors “commit” a murder.  Realizing that most diners are a far cry from Colombo, bribe money and clues are distributed to diners to use in solving the crime and catching the murderer!

Whether you enjoy chasing ghosts, chasing murderers or learning some history, there is truly something for everyone at the Belleview Biltmore Resort and Spa.
