weedon-island-preserve.jpgYou won’t find a more peaceful place than the Weedon Island Preserve. Weedon Island is just south of Gandy Boulevard in north St. Petersburg. The preserve consists of approximately 3,700 acres of natural lands. Wander back into the wooded preserve to find yourself far removed from the local traffic and noises of the city. Cast your line from the fishing pier into Riviera Bay and hook into “the big one”.

If fishing is not for you, maybe just a stroll through miles of hiking trails. The trails feature an Observation Tower to get a birds eye view of the preserve. You may want to bring your camera, as you will surely see magnificent views of Riviera Bay and Pappy’s Bayou. Lots of wildlife to been seen for those with a keen eye. There is also a Cultural & Natural History Center on the island. Have kayak, will travel. Paddle your kayak or canoe through 4 miles of waterways winding through the tiny islands. A leisurely trip should take about 3 hours. Don’t worry about getting lost as there are markers along the way to keep you on the right path. Fishing is allowed as long as you follow the State and Federal fishing regulations. Restrooms are located at the entrance to the fishing pier for your convenience.

This weather is picture perfect to spend an entire day at the preserve. Bring along your picnic basket as there are several locations to enjoy your refreshments. If you have not been to the Weedon Island Preserve, what are you waiting for?
