Cameras at Red Lights in Tampa

The cameras will go in at these intersections.

A nationwide study of fatal crashes at traffic signals in 1999 and 2000 estimated that 20 percent of the drivers involved failed to obey the signals. In 2006, almost 900 people were killed and an estimated 144,000 were injured in crashes that involved red light running. About half of the deaths in red light running crashes are pedestrians and occupants in other vehicles who are hit by the red light runners.*

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (From Bay News 9) — Thirteen Hillsborough County intersections are getting red light cameras. The cameras take photos of any cars running red lights and the cars’ owners receive a ticket in the mail. The county plans to have the cameras up in the next two months.

The intersections are:
· Waters Avenue and Anderson Road
· Waters and Sheldon Road
· Waters and Dale Mabry Highway
· Waters and Hanley Road
· Gunn Highway and Anderson/Lynn Road
· Dale Mabry Highway and Bearss/Ehrlich Road
· Sligh Avenue and Habana Avenue
· Providence Road and Lumsden Road
· Brandon Boulevard and Brandon Town Center
· Causeway Boulevard and Falkenburg Road
· Fowler Avenue and 56th Street
· Busch Boulevard and 56th Street
· Whiteway Drive and 56th Street
